Handbook of COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment officially launched
This handbook is based on the guidelines on prevention, control, diagnosis and treatment by the National Health Commission of China. It summarizes the first-hand clinical experience in how to diagnose, screen and treat COVID-19 patients, particularly critically ill patients, and it serves as a reference for other countries to fight against the pandemic. HOW DOES GUANGZHOU CITY RESPOND TO COVID-19?

Guangzhou City, particularly the Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention, has also joined the nation-wide efforts, leading its counterparts to issue the Protection Guidelines for Friends from Wuhan and the Public Health Protection Guidelines for Guangzhou Citizens. A total of 128 medical staff from nine top Guangzhou-based hospitals joined the frontline physicians in Wuhan to treat the exponentially increasing number of patients. They are the first medical team that leaded for Wuhan in their mission to contain the highly contagious virus. Some of the these heroic medical staff have experience in dealing with SARS back in 2003. (Read more)
HOW DOES GUANGZHOU ADAPT TO COVID-19 CRISIS?

China’s economic and social development has been hampered since the outbreak of COVID-19 which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on 11 March 2020. However, the country is recovering its vitality back again as the number of domestic infected cases decrease. While people are advised to continue avoiding mobility or gatherings to prevent the virus from spreading, work forces in China are stepping out of their domiciles to the work places with various precautions. Let’s take a look at Guangzhou, an active member of UCLG ASPAC, as an example. Guangzhou is the capital city of Guangdong Province and one of China’s national central cities. It has 991 of the city’s 995 projects under construction and 98 of its 343 planned new projects resumed as of 23 March 2020, of which nearly 60% are industrial projects. (Read more)

Metropolis has launched Cities for Global Health, a collaborative online platform that offers access to knowledge, strategies and actionable plans implemented by local and regional governments around the globe. A virtual space to showcase what cities are doing and be inspired by others regarding specific initiatives or plans to the COVID-19 outbreak other health emergencies. Cities for Global Health is co-led by Metropolis and AL-LAs, and is part of the "Live Learning Experience: beyond the immediate response to the outbreak", developed by UCLG and supported by UN-Habitat and Metropolis.
